John R. Scott, 95, passed away Feb. 26, 2012, in Midwest City. He was born to Joel Ernest
and Jewel Ethel (Sparks) Scott on May 25, 1916, in McLean, Gray Co., Texas. He graduated
from Carey High School, Carey, TX. On Nov. 28, 1937, he married Olena Fern Davis; they had
seven children. John worked many years as a Pentecostal Holiness minister and was a
master carpenter. At the time of his passing, he was a faithful member of Faith Chapel,
Choctaw, OK. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olena Fern; granddaughter,
Sabrina Scott; and siblings, Esther Pearl Tucker, Jewel Ernest Scott, Bernice Ruth Dewey, and
Raymond Carroll Scott. Surviving him in death are his children, Joe Scott and wife Jacque,
Thelma Ingram and husband Jerry, Allen Scott, Paul Scott, Mark Scott and wife Leslie, Jewel
Ann Scott, and Nelda Scott Newton; grandchildren, Kimberlee Dixon, Shelly Hinkle, Dan
Ingram, Shawna Essmiller, Michael Scott, Caroline Scott, Nick Scott, and Julia and Marguerite
Newton; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kylee Jo Dixon, Janson and Jase Robinson,
Julianne and Evan Essmiller, and Madison Ingram; two great-great-grandsons, Levi Carter
Holt and Brock Nickolas Scott; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kynslee Renee Holt. The
family wishes to thank the many people who helped care for John since the passing of his
wife. They especially thank his dear friend, Myrna Pelham, as well as Portia Davis and Joyce
Bradley. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Faith
Chapel, 790 S. Indian Meridian, Choctaw, OK; a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. at the
Otter Creek Cemetery in Snyder, OK. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations
be made to Faith Chapel; or Otter Creek Cemetery Fund, Bank of the Wichitas, 623 E. Street,
Snyder, OK 73566.
